Within efforts done by Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) to control prices of goods and services and regulate the local market in order to reduce counterfeit goods and products in addition to these goods that damage health, safety and environment; and through the continual communication of PACP with companies and corporates in the Sultanate to achieve these goals and aims, Mohsen Haider Darwish Group (MHDG) has stepped a bold, pioneering and unprecedented step recently. MHDG, after consultations with PACP, has reduced the prices of spare parts for all vehicles that the group is its sole agent and distributer in the Sultanate, by 35%.
A primer court order has been sentenced for an Indian nationality defendant convicted the price manipulation and the violation of the consumer protection law. He was sentenced to prison for six months with a fine of fifty riyals for violating Article (295) of the Omani Penal Law and stop the penalty of imprisonment and fined also one thousand riyal, because of his violation of consumer protection law according to Article (21).
HE Dr. Saied al Kaabi, the Chairman of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) praised the decision taken by the Attorney General to establish a special department for consumer protection cases and conflicts. "This decision is going to facilitate litigation procedures related to consumer protection lawsuits which are important to all members of society of different nationalities", al Kaabi said.
The administration of consumer protection in the governorate of al Dhahera held recently a meeting with commercial centers managers and wholesale traders and representatives of companies that distribute milk products in the governorate of al Dhahera. The meeting, held in the premises of Ibri chamber of Oman chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) aimed to explore the preparations taken by the commercial centers and shops to provide sufficient food stuff and the basic food products during the month of Ramadan and the Eid.
