Consumer Protection participates in the 20th winter camp for girl guides in Barka


Consumer Protection Barka recently participated in the 20th winter camp for girl guides, held under the theme “Communication, growth, impact”. The camp was held in the Sultan Qaboos Scout Camp in Al Malada. The participation comes within PACP efforts to spread awareness and participate with various activities serving the community.


PACP participated by giving a lecture on the consumer’s rights and duties, presented by Mr. Yousuf Al Riyami, Assistant Director of Administration, during which he discussed several topics, including an introduction of the consumer rights stipulated by the law, including the right to know, the right to listen, the right for security, and the right for free choice, in addition to the right of getting an invoice in Arabic, along with other rights per the applicable legislations. He discussed the sale invoice, stressing the importance of reading the guarantee booklet, after sale service, significance of contracts and agreements when contracting for service, and the consumer’s duties while buying like verifying the date of expiry and contents.

The participation also included an awareness corner exhibiting goods taken from the market, with items passed their date of expiry, goods with immoral pictures, and cigarettes inconsistent with the specifications and measurements, in addition to genuine products and their counterfeited counterpart to educate the consumers on how to identify between them, and in conclusion PACP distributed several publications on the authority and to disseminate the culture of consumption amongst the community.



 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
