‏Various events to celebrate Gulf Traffic Week

‏The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (“PACP”), along with all its directorates throughout Oman, participated in celebrating the Gulf Traffic Week for 2017, this year under the theme “your life is a trust”, within the continuous cooperation between Oman Royal Police “ROP” and PACP to communicate with all the communities and to educate the exhibition visitors on traffic safety.

 

‏The participation included several events and lectures introducing the decision prohibiting dealing in used tires and the penalties for violating such decision, the hazards and risks of using used tires and how to differentiate between used and new tires.
‏Consumer Protection Dhofar participated in a special traffic safety stand in the student activities center, Dhofar University, to disseminate awareness on the hazards of used tires, based on the decision No: 257/2015 prohibiting dealing and selling used tires, along with counterfeited vehicle parts and brake pads, with explanation on its direct impact on increasing traffic accidents. The stand also had a monitor projecting awareness films on the hazards of used and fake tires, important seizures, decisions prohibiting the sale of used tires, PACP activities and services and its active role in protecting the consumers from commercial fraud. The stand also distributed publications and mementos to the visitors.
‏Consumer Protection Al Batina North also participated by organizing traffic safety exhibition focusing on used tires and sample of original and counterfeited vehicle parts and brake pads with detailed presentation on its hazards. The exhibition also distributed several awareness publications on traffic safety, tire safety, how to choose your car along with other information on engine oil.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
