Approaching Eid al-Fitr Consumer Protection continues to intensify its inspection campaigns for the markets

The Consumer Protection Department at Seeb has intensified its inspection campaigns with the approaching Eid Al Fitr, due to the active commercial movement witnessed in the markets and the high turnout of consumers.

 

 


Ziad bin Saleh Al Wihaibi, Director of the Department, said that the Department prepared a field plan to monitor the markets and control the violators in all sectors that concern the consumer through the monitoring of livestock pens to ensure the stability of prices and not to exploit this occasion to raise prices, in addition to ensure availability in the markets of the Wilayat. It also aims to monitor the prices of vegetables and fruits in all centers and shops, in addition to monitoring the shops of luxury and sewing shops, as well as focusing on beauty salons to ensure their commitment to prices of services according to the lists approved by the Authority and making sure that there are no materials that are prohibited, counterfeit, or expired.

He added that the teams are to follow up and monitor the offers and commercial sales in the markets to ensure the validity of such offers and the quality of the goods declared, and to emphasize to the commercial centers the need to maintain the stability of prices and not overstated, and warning suppliers to abide by the laws and regulations and decisions issued, as well as ensure that the markets are free of any abuses that harm the health and safety of consumers.

Al-Wihaibi confirmed that the department will implement all legal procedures when it notices any irregularities or wrongdoings, adding that the channels of the Authority are available to consumers to submit any complaint or communication, and that the control officers are constantly in the market.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
