Approximately 4,000 bags of chewing tobacco were seized


The Department of Consumer Protection in North Sharqia Governorate, in cooperation with the Public Prosecution and the Royal Oman Police in Ibra, has seized large quantities of chewing tobacco, which amounted to about 4,000 bags, in addition to an amount of money and a large number of infringing cigarettes and school books used in tobacco packaging as well as plastic bags to distribute the seized goods in one of the houses inhabited by expatriate workers.



The Consumer Protection Department has been able to receive information on suspicion of a rented house by a migrant worker who manufactures and distributes chewing tobacco and smuggled cigarettes. After investigating and proving the evidence and requesting a search warrant from the public prosecution for the house in question, one of the workers was caught preparing and packing the tobacco in preparation for its sale. At the time, he had almost 4,000 bags of different types of tobacco. A number of illegal cigarettes were also seized, as well as 6 kilograms of green chewing tobacco.
Facing of the worker, he admitted that the goods seized belonged to him and that he was responsible for them. This practice was discovered to start two years ago. He packed tobacco with schoolbooks, promoted them and sold them. The seized quantities of tobacco were immediately withdrawn. It is a violation of Article (7) of the Consumer Protection Law No. 66/2014 and its bylaw and to the Authority's Decision No. 256/2015 on the prohibition of the circulation of tobacco and the amended decision No. 201/2016 of Decision No. 256/2015.


 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
