As part of its efforts to pursue violators in Ibra “Consumer Protection” controls quantities of chewed tobacco and non-standard cigarettes

The Department of Consumer Protection in North Sharqiyah Governorate, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police and the Public Prosecution, has been able to control large quantities of non-smoking tobacco and non-standard cigarettes.

 

 

In this regard, the Department of Consumer Protection has received information on the production and distribution of non-smoked tobacco and non-smoking cigarettes. Accordingly, the Department has taken the necessary legal measures. The information was verified and coordination with the Qabil Police Station and the Public Prosecution Department in the Wilayat of Ibra to take the necessary permissions. The two houses were raided, with quantities of non-smoked tobacco being prepared, other quantities ready for marketing and quantities of illegal cigarettes, as well as an amount of OMR 355 held by the accused, which he had obtained from unauthorized trade. In the second house, quantities of non-smoked tobacco prepared and other quantities ready for marketing were seized. A sum of OMR 980 was seized with the accused, which is contrary to the law and the decision No. (256/2015) amended by resolution (201/2014), which prohibits the circulation of chewed non-smoking tobacco, and accordingly the cases were referred to the competent authorities.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
