Consumer Protection gets the Smart Arab Government Award.. In the economic, financial and commercial sectors

For the second time in a row, PACP claims the Smart Arab Government Award for the best smart Arab applications category in the economic, financial and commercial authorities sector for its consumer e-guide. The award is organized by the Excellence Awards Academy in the Arab Region, and the award will be distributed in a ceremony to be held under the auspice of the Minister of Planning, Follow Up and Administrative Reform, Egypt, in Cairo on Monday 27 of the current month, 2017.

 

On this occasion, H. E. Dr. Said  Khamis Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection, said: “PACP achieving this prestigious award for the second time in a row is a source of pride for all of us. This is a clear indicator of the role of its employees in keeping pace with the technological developments around the world, and adapting it to achieve its objectives in protecting the consumer, and continuously developing its e-services to be consistent with the consumer needs and promote it to the highest level, and at the same time, it is a fitting crown for the efforts to keep up with Oman’s direction towards creating the e-government.”
“The local, Arab and international awards achieved by the PACP till now are medals to all its employees, and a strong incentive to keep their efforts to protect the consumers and provide them with all the services.” He added while stressing that PACP employees have the skills and potentials that qualify them to excel and achieve best results in all fields.
Through this award the Excellence Awards Academy in the Arab Region seeks to achieve several objectives including the enhancement of smart e-government websites and pages on the social media, encouragement of innovation in designing websites, e-pages and smart applications for the Arab governments, honor the best e-pages and tools designed according to international standards for smart e-government sites and discover and promote innovative and creative people working in the smart e-government. The award judging panel consists of technical experts, and voting is according to the internationally recognized guidelines and principles for e-government sites, smart applications and social media.
The consumer e-guide is an application provided by Consumer Protection to serve all the consumers and traders in Oman, and it is an excellent tool by the PACP to be a communication bridge with the consumers enabling exchange of data and information, and to fulfill the consumer needs by providing consumer price index, guidance and consultation while shopping, introduce PACP latest news and assist the consumers to lodge their complaints, or submit reports and observations, and then forward it to the PACP system.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
