Consumer Protection in Al Seeb Participates in Awareness Program

The Consumer Protection Department in Al Seeb has recently participated in the third forum of “Tayeb Atharak” Awareness Program, which was organized by the Municipal Affairs Committee under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al Rawahi, Wali of Al Seeb in the Office of the Wali.

 

 

In its participation, the Department delivered a workshop entitled "Be a smart consumer and do not expose your health and money to risk" presented by Mahmoud bin Hamad Al-Badi, the acting Assistant Director of the Department, during which he addressed a number of topics including the introduction to the eight consumer rights approved by the Consumer Protection Law, violations to be reported, and a number of tips on consumer awareness and the steps to be taken when making a purchase.
Al-Badi also discussed the most prominent statistical indicators that indicate the number of complaints and communications received between 2015 and 2018. The index of refunds for consumers was also presented as a result of the Department's efforts to protect consumers' rights and solve complaints in different sectors. The methods of selecting clothing in accordance with the specificity of the society were also introduced, and the need to stay away from buying clothes that carry words that are not commensurate with the traditions of the conservative society, or the words of shame.
In the exhibition accompanying the forum, the basics of selection of healthy foods were introduced, in addition to advice to keep away from the foods sold by street vendors, and the foods that do not have explanatory data, as the dates of production and expiry, as well as the introduction to prohibited goods through the presentation of samples of these goods seized in the markets.
On the other hand, Consumer Protection participated in the awareness exhibition organized by Al Hassan bin Hashim School under the slogan " Our life values " which lasted for a week, which included samples of seized goods, counterfeit goods, expired and imitated, which were withdrawn from the markets. Detailed description of how to read the ID card and food card attached to consumer goods was given.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
