"Consumer Protection" in Batinah North organizes two awareness lectures


The General Directorate for Consumer Protection in Batinah North has recently organized, in cooperation with the Directorate of Education in the governorate


, two awareness lectures at Al Tarif School for Basic Education in the Wilayat of Sohar and Umayma Bint Abdul Muttalib in the Wilayat of Al-Khaboura on the infringing goods in the markets. The lectures addressed the role of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection in consumer service, consumer rights and the risks of commercial fraud and counterfeit goods. The lectures aim to enhance the awareness and education efforts of the Directorate and the dissemination of consumer culture among students and introduce the Public Authority for Consumer Protection and ways to access them through multiple channels.

During the two lectures, a number of aspects focusing on consumer rights and duties guaranteed by the Consumer Protection Law. A video was also presented about the Consumer Protection Authority, the achievements of the Authority and some of the seizures made by the Authority. It also explained the impact of commercial fraud on society, in addition to providing a number of advice on the mechanism of distinguishing between fake and original goods, ways of communicating with the Authority and the mechanism for submitting complaints and reports and methods of solving them in the Directorate.

The lectures were accompanied by a mini exhibition where samples of counterfeit, fake and prohibited goods which do not meet the specifications and standards were displayed. The participants were introduced to how to distinguish between original and counterfeit goods and urged to avoid misleading advertisements that began to spread significantly in our local markets.

A number of guidance and awareness publications have been distributed in order to instill a healthy consumer culture among consumers and provide a range of advice that will contribute to the preservation of their rights, including not rushing to buy goods of unknown origin, and not to trust the oral warranty. The warranty cards must be written, documented and kept with the receipt, especially for long-term goods. The consumer should inspect the item carefully and make sure it is safe before leaving.


 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
