Due to increased awareness among suppliers Complaints decline during the first half of 2019

20/08/2019

The analytical report of the statistical indicators for the first half of 2019 showed that the Department of Economic Data and Information showed a decrease in the index of reports, violations and seized goods compared to the same period of 2018.

The report showed that the total communications during the first half of this year amounted to (2401), compared with (2725) communications for the same period last year by (11.9%). The report also showed a decrease in the rate of reports in most consumer protection directorates and departments. Dhofar Consumer Protection Department recorded the highest rate of decline during the first half of 2019 compared to the same period in 2018 with a rate of (-109) communications, followed by the North Sharqiyah Department at (-55) communication. At the level of sectors, the food consumables sector led the decline compared to the previous period with a rate of (232) reports with a decrease of (34) %. The reasons for consumers submitting reports in that sector are due to the difference in price between the shelf and the accountant, the failure to set prices, in addition to raising prices and the presence of expired foodstuffs.

The reason for the decrease in the reports is due to increased awareness among traders and suppliers of the Consumer Protection Law and Regulation and the decisions issued by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection and their awareness of the penalties applied for violating the laws, which led to their adherence to laws and regulations, and thus try to avoid them.
