During the 1st quarter of 2018: with the recovery of more than OMR 18,000 for consumers.


The Consumer Protection Department in Al-Sharqiyah North Governorate was able to recover OMR 9,881 for consumers during the first half of 2018 according to the statistical indexes report by the department.


These recovered amounts are a part of the exerted efforts by the department to solve the consumer complaints through amicable settlement.
The recovered amounts came from different businesses as OMR 6500 was recovered from Construction and contracting, OMR 1750 from manpower recruitment, OMR 714 from tires sale shops, OMR 349 from car and car-related services and OMR 192 from electric and electronic devices.
The report also indicated that there were 46 violations for reasons such as: selling expired goods, discrepancies in standards and specifications, offering sales without permission. The administrative fines for these violations totaled OMR 5,950.
The department received 8 complaints and 78 reports from various businesses and dealt with all of the complaints, violations, and reports by taking the required measures as stipulated in the Consumer Protection Law, and other related resolutions, some were solved amicably while others were referred to the Public Prosecution and then to the competent courts. Eight verdicts were pronounced in favor of the department, and OMR 2,300 in fines. The report further indicated that the department organized 23 awareness exhibits and functions.


 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
