During the first half of this year 2019 More than OMR 319,000 have been recovered for a number of consumers

The Department of Consumer Protection has managed to recover OMR 319873.4 in favor of a number of consumers during the first half of 2019, according to the statistical indicators report of the department in its efforts to resolve consumer complaints and recover their rights.

 

 

The amounts recovered by amicable settlement were distributed in a number of sectors, foremost of which was the construction and building materials sector with a return of OMR (250,896,24), followed by the aluminum and blacksmithing and carpentry sector with a total of OMR 11855,728 and the labor services sector at OMR 100,082 , followed by the furniture and furniture products sector with a return of OMR 15102. In the electrical and electronic equipment sector, OMR 14438.3 was recovered. In addition, OMR 112,124 was recovered in the automotive repair sector. In addition, OMR 5,174 was received in the clothing and textiles sector. While the amounts recovered for the other goods sector amounted to OMR 4,385. In addition, OMR 4,318 was recovered from the spare parts services sector, OMR 773 in the tire sector, OMR 566 in the other services sector, OMR 486 in the telephone and services sector and OMR 285 was recovered in the kitchen sector. The total refunds in the barber shops and beauty salons and their services sector amounted to OMR (280).

Ziad Al-Wahaibi, the director of the department, said that the department has dealt with all these complaints and violations and taken the necessary actions in accordance with the provisions of the consumer protection law and other decisions related to consumer protection. Some of them were settled by the department while some of them were referred to the Public Prosecution, which in turn referred some cases to the competent courts where the appropriate provisions and penal orders were issued.

Al-Wahaibi added that the administration is working hard to preserve and return consumers' rights through various legal means available. The consumer should continue to cooperate by reporting the violators through the various channels of the Authority.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
