For the third consecutive year “Consumer Protection” in Sur launches “Know Your Right” awareness campaign

The Consumer Protection Department in Sur has recently launched the third version of its awareness campaign “Know Your Right”, which targets employees of government and private institutions in the governorate, in order to introduce them to their rights as consumers and instill a safe consumer culture.

 

The campaign includes providing awareness lectures through which a number of axes are discussed, including introducing the Public Authority for Consumer Protection and its competencies, introducing the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations, and clarifying all the rights it has guaranteed to consumers. In addition, it will address some of the services provided by the Authority in the service sectors of interest to the consumer, such as labor services sector, and clarify the importance of recording the contract and warranty between the consumer and the provider, and the common mistakes that some consumers during the request service. It will also discuss the steps that should be followed when requesting a service related to the sectors of automotive agencies, their services, spare parts and repair workshops including the date of receipt of the item or receive the service and write down the warranty and the date of return of the item in case of defect or improper specifications of the item, as well as clarifying the difference between the guarantee and warranty in the sector of electrical appliances and electronic phones and the importance of writing the delivery date in the invoice of sewing clothes, textiles, furniture stores and blacksmithing services. 

 

The campaign will also showcase examples of the Authority's efforts in solving some consumer issues in the services, the mechanism of filing complaints and reports in case of violation of their rights, in addition to distributing a number of the Authority's various publications.

 

This campaign comes within a series of campaigns implemented by the Public Authority for Consumer Protection in its various departments within the framework of enhancing its awareness role in spreading the culture of consumption and educating consumers about their rights guaranteed by laws and legislations.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
