Lecture to spread safe consumer culture among schoolgirls in Al Buraimi


The Consumer Protection Department in Al Buraimi has recently organized an educational activity entitled “Small Consumers” at Zainab bint Khuzaymah Basic School (12-5),


in the framework of the joint cooperation between governmental institutions in order to communicate the educational message of the Authority, instill a culture of safe consumption among schoolgirls and to inform them on the correct ways to follow when they buy any commodity or get any service.
The lecture was delivered by Fatima Al-Kaabi, through which she introduced the eight consumer rights that the consumer protection law adopted, such as the right to education, listening to his opinions, safety, free choice, compensation and satisfaction of basic needs. She has also introduced a number of smart shopping tips such as the importance of writing a shopping list, setting up a budget, adhering to it, and touring the right shopping cart. It also indicated the need to choose the appropriate product and compare it at the right price, check the item and make sure it is safe before buying, in addition to confirming the date of validity, and contents before leaving the shop. She also mentioned the importance of the purchase invoice and the need to request it to ensure the protection of consumer rights. In addition, a number of competitions and questions were presented to introduce students to the importance of reading consumer symbols and food labels.
A number of seizures were also presented, such as expired goods, prohibited and non-conforming materials, a comparison between original and counterfeit goods, as well as identification of the services of the Authority and how to file a complaint.


 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
