More than 90,000 packets Consumer Protection Seeb seize a company manipulating medical supplies and equipment

Consumer Protection Seeb seized a company active in supplying medical supplies, tools and laboratory fluids while it was manipulating the date of validity of these supplies, and promoting similar other items after their date of expiry.

 

The directorate received information that a medical supplier is manipulating the validity date of such supplies, accordingly legal procedures were taken in term of monitoring, investigation and gathering information, and the law rnforcemrnt expert verified its correctness, thus coordination started with other authorities to obtain search warrant to raid the company and verify what practices are followed therein.
Following the permissions and approvals required, and in cooperation and collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Public Prosecution and Royal Oman Police, a plan was made and law enforcement officers were assigned to implemented, and the raid resulted in apprehending expatriate workers changing the date of validity on certain medical supplies using specific materials. The law enforcement officers also noticed a large quantity of expired medical supplies, and other quantities with manipulated date of expiry. In total, 91,551 packets were found there in violation of the consumer protection law, as stipulated in article 7 concerning the prohibition of dealing in fake, bad, counterfeited or unauthorized goods, and article 3 of the executive bylaws.
Accordingly to specialized reports, materials with sterilized packing may cause infections to users due to the expiry of the sterilization period, and concerning plastic materials, like breathing tubes, the changes of the plastic characteristics contribute in the growth of bacteria and infection to patients, and the medical laboratory materials, using some of it, like expired solutions, may result in wrong diagnosis and unhealthy treatment, thus affecting the patient’s health and increasing side effects, and more. For information, all these materials are not permitted to be used because it has exceeded its validity period, thus will not fulfill its purpose and will affect the public health.
Consumer Protection also calls on the traders and suppliers to comply with the health conditions and the laws and regulations aimed at protecting the consumers.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
