Throughout PACP Awareness lectures and activities on the role of Consumer Protection

The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (“PACP”) organized various awareness activities in a number of schools throughout Oman to introduce its role and achievements, their rights and obligations as consumers and safe consumption culture.

 

Consumer Protection Seeb organized an awareness lecture at Durrat Al Ajyal School for basic education titled “the role of PACP in protecting the consumer”, coinciding with the school health day organized by the school. The lecture was presented by Mrs. Azza Majid Al Mamari, acting head of administrative affairs, and Mrs. Amira Salim Al Mamari, market control and regulation division, and included several topics with an introduction to PACP and its role, and major achievements and seizures. The lecture was accompanied by a small exhibition on original and counterfeited goods and prohibited goods, in addition to samples of expired products.
Mr. Amir Asad Allah Al Balushi, acting head of market control and regulation, and Mr. Saood Al Hatrooshi, market control and regulation division, presented an awareness lecture at Al Khoud Secondary School, aiming to introduce the role of PACP and its activities to disseminate awareness, with an introduction to counterfeited and imitation goods and how to differentiate between them, in addition to prohibited goods and goods not complying with the standard specifications. The lecture also included an introduction to PACP website, and awareness programmes and applications, in addition to the services provided. The lecture concluded with the distribution of awareness publications.
Consumer Protection Sharqiya North also arranged an awareness event at Al Jizei School for basic education, attended by the parents, with a small exhibition of goods taken from the local markets.
The exhibition covered samples of counterfeited and expired goods, and samples of clothes seized because it violate the public moral, in addition to samples of chewing tobacco and prohibited goods for containing hazardous materials and not featuring any details. The exhibition also distributed several awareness booklets.
On the other hand, Consumer Protection Al Batinah North, along with thirteen schools from all over Oman, recently participated in the 1st awareness forum in Sohar School for boys, under the theme “Community Partnership … building personality … securing the future”, based on the objective of the community partnership and getting the message and purpose across the community, and introduce safe consumption culture and the consumer rights and obligations.
The participation was by an exhibition of counterfeited goods taken from the markets, with a number of original and counterfeited goods and how to differentiate between them. The exhibition was a success considering the large number of visitors who interacted with the exhibits.
The directorate officials also provided the visitors with detailed and simplified explanation on PACP, its functions, jurisdictions, services provided to the consumer, how to communicate with it, consumer basic rights and obligations and how to make an informed purchase of goods and services, in addition to the standards and specifications and its role in protecting the consumers, and the importance of verifying the specifications of the goods and services, especially with the increasing numbers of advertisements attracting the consumers toward impulsive purchase. The event concluded with distribution of awareness publications to the exhibition visitors.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
