During the first quarter of 2019 Recovering over OMR 153,000 and replacing 412 commodities

The Complaints Department at the Public Authority for Consumer Protection in Muscat managed to recover more than OMR 153,000 and replacing 412 commodities for consumers during the first quarter of this year 2019.

 

 

Waleed bin Ali Al Rawahi, Director of Complaints Department, said that according to the statistical indicators of complaints submitted in the sector of vehicles, equipment and machinery, as well as the electrical and electronic equipment and other services sector, a total of OMR 77,372 was recovered in the vehicles and equipment sector, and 5 vehicles and 47 items including spare parts and tires were replaced.
Al Rawahi added that OMR 66,364.700 was recovered in the construction materials, furniture and other services sector. 17 commodities were replaced in this sector, adding that OMR 9671,750 thousand was recovered in the electrical and electronic appliances and 343 items were replaced including telephones, watches, refrigerators, air conditioners, ovens and other electronic and electrical items.
Al-Rawahi explained that these refunds are due to the efforts of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection in resolving consumer complaints and finding suitable solutions in accordance with the procedures set forth in the Consumer Protection Law No. 66/2014 and its executive regulations 77/2017 and the decisions issued by the Authority. He also stressed the continued performance of its mission to protect the rights of consumers in accordance with the legal procedures in force in this regard, and consumers can communicate with the Authority in case of violation of their rights through the channels of communication allocated to the Authority.

 No one imagined that greed and deviousness would reach such a staggering level that thought exist only in movies and investigative drama shows , yet it became a stark reality when some merchants sought to make a profit on the account of health and safety of the young and adults alike utilizing the God-given intellect that they posses into destruction and evil instead of serving public good , the devious plan used ( Back to school ) season by carving holes inside books and hiding chewing tobacco inside in away from the inspectors notice targeting the younger generation with these destructive materials that effect the health , mind and safety of our kids .
 The Judicial officers noticed that consumers come very frequently to a specific shop during one of the inspection tours which raised their suspicions to strengthening the monitoring and follow up on that matter , students were spotted in the shop as well , the Officers expediently intervened to inspect the shop , the inspection did not reveal anything at first , however , the officers noticed a stack of books and decided to inspect it , surprisingly , they found more than 600 pouches of chewing tobacco on its way to be sold and distributed on consumers and students , the officers immediately issued a violation and referred the case to the General Prosecution to deal with the matter as per the Law
